CM Shivakumar to Appoint Grievances Minister to Curb Corruption

In an effort to curb administrative corruption, CM Shivakumar announced in Bengaluru on Thursday the planned appointment of a dedicated grievances minister and the creation of two new secretariats.

The decision is aimed at systematically addressing public grievances and strengthening governance. Under the new plan, the government will establish two distinct secretariats: one dedicated to public grievances and another focused on Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

A minister will be appointed specifically to oversee the public grievances portfolio. Through this new system, citizens who are facing administrative issues will be given a platform to be heard at least three times a week. The government plans to ensure that all submitted grievances are thoroughly examined for both their legality and their factual basis.

According to Shivakumar, the ultimate goal of these structural changes is to foster a corruption-free government. To achieve this, he emphasized that government officials must be allowed to perform their duties without being subjected to external pressures.

Shivakumar stated that officials should not face pressure from any caste or religious groups. Furthermore, he noted that officials must be free from administrative pressure originating from his own office, as well as from the offices of any current or former ministers.

The announcement outlines a new framework for public accountability, establishing regular weekly channels for citizen complaints and legal reviews of administrative grievances in the state.
