Kristu Jayanti University Secures Rs 1 Crore Grant for Parkinson's Research

Kristu Jayanti deemed-to-be university in Bengaluru has secured a research grant of over Rs 1 crore under the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) of the Union education ministry.
The sanctioned funding will support a specialized scientific project aimed at addressing Parkinson's disease. The project is scheduled to be implemented over a two-year period, running from June 2026 to May 2028.
The initiative is part of SPARC, which is a national program designed to enhance India's overall research ecosystem by supporting high-impact joint research collaborations.
The specific project funded by the grant is titled “Development of Stimuli-Responsive Theranostic Nanocomposites of Marine- and Plant-Derived Neuroprotective Agents for Parkinson’s Disease: An Integrated Approach.”
The research efforts will be led by Shinomol George K, who serves as an assistant professor in the department of life sciences within the school of biological and forensic sciences. Shinomol George K will act as the principal investigator for the project.
Assisting in the project is Dileep Francis, the dean of the centre for research and development and an associate professor in the department of life sciences, who has been named as the co-principal investigator.
To execute the research, the Bengaluru-based institution will work in partnership with international academic experts. The project is being carried out in collaboration with Sophia University, located in Tokyo, Japan.
