Danish Sait Reflects on a Decade of Mr Nags and RCB Connection to Bengaluru

BENGALURU — Comedian Danish Sait has marked over a decade of portraying his popular character "Mr Nags" for the Royal Challengers Bangalore cricket franchise, reflecting on how the team and its fan-centric content embody the spirit and resilience of Bengaluru.
Sait, who created the character to resonate directly with the language, mannerisms, and choice of words of local Bengalureans, noted that the initiative aimed to humanise professional athletes. While fans often view sports stars as superheroes, Sait and his creative team wanted to show that the players were also regular people who could laugh at themselves, poke fun at their own shortcomings, and participate in playful activities.
Over the years, the creative team behind the franchise's content expanded to include collaborators Kritharth Srinivasan and Arjun, who helped shape the direction of the material. Sait admitted he remains unsure of how a headband became a permanent part of the Mr Nags look, but noted that it added to the playful nature of the character.
According to Sait, the franchise's behind-the-scenes show, RCB Insider, was designed to provide authentic access to the team. Rather than focusing strictly on cricket matches, the content captured poolside conversations, flights, hotel corridors, team buses, and spontaneous moments behind the scenes to show the personalities behind the jerseys.
The relationship between the team and its supporters has been defined by shared optimism, particularly during challenging periods. Sait pointed to the 2016 final, where the team came heartbreakingly close to winning before the trophy slipped away, as a moment that mirrored the fans' own resilience. He explained that continuing to show up and hope eventually became a core part of the team's identity.
This emotional connection remains highly visible at the franchise's home ground, the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which regularly hosts crowds of 40,000 cheering fans. Sait, who initially did not expect the character to last beyond a single season, emphasized that the franchise has maintained a culture of treating players, support staff, media, and crew members with equal respect and affection.
