Bengaluru Police Ban Road Celebrations and Firecrackers After IPL 2026 Final

The Bengaluru City Police issued a strict public advisory on May 31, 2026, banning road celebrations, bike rallies, and the bursting of firecrackers across the city following the IPL 2026 final. The directive aims to maintain public order and safety, particularly around high-traffic areas near Chinnaswamy Stadium, following the victory of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
According to the police, strict compliance with safety norms is mandatory as the match results are announced. Authorities stressed that preserving public peace and law and order remains a shared responsibility for all residents. The advisory explicitly prohibits the bursting of firecrackers, organizing road celebrations, creating public disturbances, and engaging in fights in public spaces.
Traffic safety is a major focus of the police order. The advisory bans bike rallies, overspeeding, stunt riding, the misuse of vehicle horns, and any form of road blockade.
The police have also placed strict regulations on public viewing arrangements. Commercial establishments, including malls and pubs, are barred from positioning LED screens in a way that allows public viewing from roads or open areas. Furthermore, any installation of road-facing LED screens requires prior official permission, and existing LED walls have been directed not to broadcast the match.
Additionally, the advisory cautions citizens against consuming alcohol in public places, engaging in unruly behavior, or provoking others through insults or confrontations.
The police also warned residents against sharing provocative, hateful, or rumor-based content on social media networks. Officials emphasized that fans of any cricket team must not be provoked or targeted under the pretext of the match results.
These stringent measures follow a tragic incident in June 2025, when a stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB victory celebrations claimed 11 lives and left several others injured.
While the IPL 2026 final was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which has a capacity of over 1.3 lakh spectators, the local police in Bengaluru deployed these measures to prevent similar crowd-control disasters in the city.
