Koppal Teenager Stabs Father and Sister to Death Over Online Mobile Gaming Dispute

An 18-year-old pre-university student allegedly stabbed his father and elder sister to death, and grievously injured his mother, on Saturday night in Hosa Ayodhya village of Gangavathi taluk, Koppal district. The attack, which occurred on June 6, reportedly took place after the teenager was advised against playing online mobile games.

The suspect, identified as Sai Venkat Manideep, allegedly stabbed himself after the attack and is currently undergoing treatment alongside his mother, Soujanya, at the VIMS Hospital in Ballari.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Venkat Naidu, 45, who worked as a cook at a private school, and his 19-year-old daughter, Pragathi. The incident took place under the limits of the Gangavathi Rural police station.

A complaint filed by Tatarao, Venkat Naidu's father, states that the family had dinner together before going to sleep. Venkat Naidu, his wife, and their two children slept in one room, while his parents slept in another.

Around 10:30 p.m., Tatarao heard a commotion and his son shouting from the family's room. Finding himself unable to open the door, he sought help from neighbours to gain entry.

Upon entering the room, neighbours and family members found Venkat Naidu, Soujanya, and Pragathi with severe stab wounds. Pragathi died on the spot, while Venkat Naidu succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a hospital. Soujanya sustained serious injuries to her head and neck.

In his complaint, Tatarao alleged that his grandson, Sai Venkat Manideep, suddenly became enraged, picked up a knife from the house, stabbed Pragathi, attacked his parents, and then slit his own neck.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Ram L. Arasiddi stated that preliminary information points to the crime being committed by a family member. He added that the injured family members told investigators that the suspect switched off the lights while they were asleep and attacked them with a knife. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
