Five Karnataka students achieve perfect 625 scores in SSLC-2 exams

Five students in Karnataka achieved a perfect score of 625 out of 625 following the release of the SSLC-2 examination results on Saturday evening.

The accomplishments of these students—one from a government school and four from private schools—coincided with the state recording a historic consolidated pass percentage of 98 percent for regular fresh students.

The SSLC-2 examinations were conducted from May 18 to May 25 in 358 exam centres across Karnataka. A total of 1.03 lakh students appeared for the SSLC-2 exams.

According to official data, the consolidated pass percentage for regular fresh students reached 98 percent, marking a significant rise from the 80 percent recorded last year. This consolidated figure combined a 94.1 percent pass percentage in SSLC-1 and a 63 percent pass percentage in SSLC-2. The overall consolidated pass percentage for all SSLC students stood at 93.1 percent, up from 75 percent last year.

In addition to the five perfect scorers, many students who reappeared for the exams to improve their marks saw academic gains. Out of 11,892 students who had already passed SSLC-1 and chose to retake the exam, 71 percent achieved better scores.

Among those who improved their results, 136 students secured 100 percent marks in their first language, 76 in their second language, and 144 in their third language. Furthermore, 52 students achieved 100 percent in Mathematics, 126 in Science, and 68 in Social Science.

The results also highlighted gender and school-type performance. Girls outperformed boys with a 99 percent pass percentage compared to 97 percent for boys. Students from government schools recorded a 98 percent pass percentage, slightly trailing behind unaided private schools, which saw a 98.63 percent pass percentage.

Medium of instruction also showed variations, with English medium students achieving the highest pass percentage at 98.96 percent, while Tamil medium students recorded the lowest at 93 percent.

Regionally, Udupi district recorded the highest pass percentage at 99.58 percent, followed closely by Mandya at 99.43 percent, Dakshin Kannada at 99.42 percent, and Bengaluru Rural at 99.34 percent. Hassan, Haveri, and Uttara Kannada also registered pass percentages above 99 percent.

This year's academic cycle featured only two SSLC examinations. The state department of school education introduced major changes for the exams, which included reducing the passing marks from 35 to 33 and incorporating internal marks into the final passing criteria.
