Bengaluru to host massive Yoga Day events at Vidhana Soudha and SMVIT campus

Bengaluru is preparing to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with major public events scheduled at prominent landmarks including Vidhana Soudha and the Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (SMVIT) campus. Multiple organisations across the city have planned mass sessions, meditation programmes, and world record attempts to promote health, mindfulness, and wellness among residents.

With the annual event falling on a Sunday this year, local organisers are preparing for high participation as residents look to take a break and rejuvenate. The central theme for this year's global event is "Yoga for Healthy Aging," which highlights the role of yoga in promoting longevity, mobility, and preventive healthcare across aging populations.

On the state government's behalf, the Department of Ayush is organising the official yoga day celebrations directly in front of Vidhana Soudha. This landmark venue will host public sessions to encourage community participation in wellness activities.

Meanwhile, on the SMVIT campus, Sahaja Yoga Karnataka is partnering with the institute to host a mass yoga session and cultural programmes from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The morning session will be headlined by an ensemble of 100 flautists who will attempt to set a new world record during the event.

Another massive gathering is scheduled by Akshar Yoga Kendraa, which is aiming to achieve 21 world records in a single day. The organisation expects to bring together 5,000 participants from various walks of life. The gathering will include members of the armed forces, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF), and local police, alongside students, children, families, senior citizens, yoga practitioners, and international participants.

For those looking for a focused mindfulness session, the Prajna Wisdom Centre will hold its "Drop Everything and Recharge" (DEAR) programme. This initiative is designed to encourage people to pause their daily routines and focus on their well-being through meditation, pranayama, and other yoga-related activities.
