Bengaluru East City Corporation to issue notices over compound wall violations

On Wednesday, the Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) directed its officials to identify residential and commercial buildings with compound walls that violate height regulations.
BECC Commissioner DS Ramesh issued the directive during a review meeting in Bengaluru, ordering that official notices be served to non-compliant property owners.
The directive specifically targets compound walls that exceed the permissible heights prescribed under the National Building Code (NBC). Commissioner Ramesh gave these instructions during a comprehensive review meeting focused on the progress of various development and engineering works currently underway across the corporation's limits.
Under the newly issued directive, corporation officials must conduct field inspections to locate violating properties. Once these properties are identified, the owners of these residential and commercial structures will receive formal notices demanding compliance with the national standards. According to the corporation, the inspections and subsequent enforcement actions are part of a larger initiative to improve public safety and enhance urban infrastructure management within the city.
In addition to addressing compound wall height violations, Commissioner Ramesh also ordered the immediate identification of dilapidated and structurally unsafe buildings. Officials have been tasked with locating structures that pose an active threat to public life and property in the area.
For buildings found to be structurally compromised, the commissioner directed officials to take decisive action, which includes carrying out demolitions wherever necessary to protect the public. To closely monitor the implementation of these safety measures, the commissioner has required officials to submit weekly progress reports detailing their inspections, notices issued, and enforcement actions taken.
