Bengaluru East City Corporation to Issue Notices Over Compound Wall Violations

The Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) has ordered a crackdown on building violations, directing its officials to identify all residential and commercial properties in Bengaluru East with compound walls that exceed permissible height limits.
The directive was issued on Wednesday by BECC Commissioner DS Ramesh during a review meeting. The meeting was held to assess the ongoing progress of various development and engineering works being carried out across the corporation's limits.
Under the new order, officials must conduct physical inspections to locate properties where compound walls violate the heights prescribed under the National Building Code (NBC). Property owners found to be in violation of these safety regulations will be served with formal legal notices. These notices will require owners to bring their structures into compliance, which could result in enforcement actions, fines, or mandatory modifications to the structures.
According to the commissioner, the inspections and subsequent actions against compound wall violations are part of the corporation's broader efforts to improve public safety and enhance urban infrastructure management within the city.
In addition to the compound wall crackdown, Commissioner Ramesh also instructed officials to immediately identify dilapidated and structurally unsafe buildings. These structures, which pose a significant threat to public life and property, will face strict enforcement actions. The commissioner authorized officials to carry out demolitions of these unsafe buildings wherever required.
To ensure the directives are executed effectively, the commissioner has ordered officials to submit weekly progress reports on both the compound wall inspections and the actions taken against structurally unsafe buildings.
