Worker electrocuted during Metro work outside Trinity Metro Station on MG Road

A 50-year-old daily wage labourer was electrocuted on Friday afternoon while carrying out excavation work outside the Trinity Metro Station on MG Road.
The incident occurred at 3:52 pm near pillar number 153, where the worker was conducting pit excavation for Namma Metro pillar lighting.
The deceased has been identified as Guruappa, a resident of Jigani in the Bengaluru Rural district.
According to the jurisdictional Halsuru police, Guruappa was using a drilling machine when he came into contact with a live electric cable and suffered a fatal electric shock.
Following the shock, he was immediately rushed to St. Philomena’s Hospital. However, doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead upon arrival.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) stated that Guruappa was a contract labourer. He was employed by MR Electricals, which is the contractor executing the Namma Metro pillar lighting works.
At the time of the report, the Halsuru police noted that no case had been registered yet in connection with the incident.
BMRCL announced that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the electrocution. The corporation also expressed its condolences to the bereaved family of the worker.
