Woman Dies in Hebbagodi Accident Near Electronic City, Sparking Protests

A 32-year-old woman was killed on Wednesday after she fell from a motorcycle and was run over by a goods vehicle in Hebbagodi, near Electronic City. The incident sparked immediate protests from local residents, who blamed the fatal crash on deteriorating road conditions and unattended potholes.
The victim was identified as Medha, a native of Kerala who worked at a provident fund office in Bengaluru. She was travelling as a pillion rider with a friend at the time of the crash.
According to preliminary information, the two-wheeler lost control after a car in front braked suddenly due to poor road conditions. Medha was thrown onto the road during the sudden stop. A goods vehicle following immediately behind ran over her, resulting in her death on the spot.
Following the incident, residents gathered at the location, staging a road blockade and demonstrating to demand urgent repairs. Protesters pointed out that roads around Electronic City and Ananthnagar have become heavily riddled with potholes, creating severe hazards for daily motorists and commuters. Residents noted that the road is frequently dug up without proper repair work being completed afterwards.
Addressing the fatality, Karnataka Minister Santosh Lad acknowledged the incident while defending the state's civic spending.
"I am saddened by it, and my sympathies are with the family. There could definitely have been a pothole. But a pothole does not mean that the entire infrastructure is poor or that we have not spent money. We have spent a lot of money, and every year we provide the necessary justification," the minister told reporters.
