Woman Dies by Suicide at Agara Lake in HSR Layout Over Alleged Blackmail

A 22-year-old woman died by suicide by jumping into Agara Lake under the HSR Layout police limits on Saturday after allegedly being blackmailed over private photos by a former classmate.

The deceased, identified as Vanishree, was a native of Sagara in Shivamogga district. She resided at a paying guest accommodation in HSR Layout and worked as a sales executive at a local jewellery store.

According to the police, Vanishree left her PG accommodation on Saturday morning and went to Agara Lake. Her roommate discovered a death note left behind in the room and promptly alerted Vanishree's sister, the PG owner, and the police. Police retrieved her body from the lake and sent it for a postmortem examination.

In the note, Vanishree held her former pre-university classmate, Abhishek AK from Shivamogga, responsible for her death. She alleged that he persistently threatened her by sending her private photographs and videos on WhatsApp. She also wrote that he coerced her into meeting him under threats of circulating the media on social platforms, leaving her depressed and feeling that she had no other way out.

Vanishree stated in the note that Abhishek should face severe punishment. Following a formal complaint lodged by her sister, the HSR Layout police registered a case against Abhishek under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment of suicide. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
