Woman and Two Granddaughters Killed by Speeding Train in Doddaballapur

A 46-year-old woman and her two granddaughters were killed on the spot after being run over by a speeding express train near the Doddaballapur railway station on Monday morning.

The victims have been identified as 46-year-old Irfana and her granddaughters, 13-year-old Rukaiya and eight-year-old Raziya. The two young sisters had arrived from Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh four months ago to visit their grandmother for the holidays. Irfana, who worked at a plantation in Muttur village in Doddaballapura taluk, was on her way to drop the children back to Hindupur when the fatal incident occurred.

The accident took place around 6:30 am as the three attempted to cross the railway tracks to reach the Doddaballapura railway station. According to police officials, they were hurriedly crossing the tracks instead of taking the station's skywalk, fearing they would miss their train.

At the time, an express train heading to Latur in Maharashtra via Yeshwanthapur was approaching. Local bystanders noticed the oncoming train and warned the family not to cross the tracks. Despite the warnings, they proceeded to cross and were hit by the speeding train.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Doddaballapura Government Hospital for a postmortem examination and were later handed over on Monday afternoon. The Yeshwanthapur Railway Police have registered a case regarding the incident.
