Woman and Two Daughters Found Dead in Under-Construction House in Sira

A 35-year-old woman and her two young daughters died after consuming poison at an under-construction Ashraya house on the outskirts of Sira in Tumakuru district on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Rubiya and her daughters, nine-year-old Tamanna and five-year-old Simran. Their bodies were discovered on Thursday morning after Rubiya's live-in partner, Srikanth, was alerted by construction workers and broke open the doors of the house.
Rubiya had earlier drawn attention across the state for her prolonged struggle to obtain housing. In 2024, she submitted an appeal to then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during his visit to Tumakuru, asking the government to allot her a house or grant her permission for mercy killing.
While the government subsequently allotted her an Ashraya house, she was made to wait for the official title deed to the property.
The Sira Town police have registered a complaint against Srikanth for abetment of suicide.
