Visthar Campus Hosts 18th Bhoomi Habba Environmental Festival

The 18th edition of Bhoomi Habba, a prominent cultural festival focused on environmental themes, was scheduled to take place this weekend at the Visthar Campus in Bengaluru. Held to coincide with World Environment Day, the festival was organized around the central theme of 'Restore, Reclaim – Community Paths to Climate Action' to highlight local environmental issues and solutions.

The annual event has been a significant fixture on Bengaluru’s environmental and cultural calendar for nearly two decades. By hosting the festival, organizers aimed to transform the Visthar Campus into an interactive space where local citizens could connect with nature, discover sustainable living practices, and cultivate a shared responsibility for building a more eco-friendly future.

Mercy Kappen, the co-founder and strategic advisor at Visthar, emphasized the role of creative arts in driving environmental awareness at the event. Kappen stated that the festival uses 'the power of theatre, poetry, storytelling, games and movement to transform personal stories into collective calls for climate action.' Through these diverse mediums, the event sought to engage visitors of all ages in environmental advocacy.

A key highlight of the festival's lineup was a specialized waste management workshop organized by The ClimActive Initiative. This session aimed to provide practical guidance on sustainability and waste reduction for the city's residents.

In addition to the workshop, the festival's schedule featured several other interactive events. These included a musical segment titled 'Sing for the earth,' playback theatre performances, and a session called 'The treevellers’ katte.' Visitors could also participate in 'The karakuri workshop' and explore various offerings of art, food, storytelling, and music spread across the Visthar Campus.
