Two youths beat Bengaluru PG owner to death in OMBR Layout over water tap dispute

A paying guest (PG) accommodation owner was beaten to death on Monday in OMBR Layout on Kasturinagar Main Road, east Bengaluru, following a dispute with two youths over the use of a water tap. The victim, Matle Madhavan, succumbed to severe head injuries at a private hospital within 90 minutes of being attacked with a cricket bat outside his property, Lakshmi Narasimha Gents PG.

The Ramamurthynagar police registered a case following a complaint by the victim's wife, Sunita. The police identified the two accused as Rakesh, 21, a resident of Cox Town, and Don Brite Son, 20, from Jeevanahalli.

According to the complaint, the incident began around 4:00 PM when the two accused entered the PG premises at 1st A Cross, OMBR Layout, and began washing their legs in the parking area. At the time, Madhavan was out on work, while Sunita was inside their ground-floor home with her two sons and her nephew, Shashi.

Shashi confronted the youths, questioning why they had entered the private property without permission to use the tap. The accused argued back, claiming they were not doing anything wrong. Hearing the commotion, Sunita came outside to intervene. The two youths eventually left the premises after shouting at her.

The family believed the confrontation had ended. However, around 6:30 PM, the two youths returned and stood outside the PG building. The family alerted Madhavan, who had returned home, and he went outside to confront the duo.

During this second confrontation, the youths threatened to kill Madhavan. In response, Madhavan brought out a cricket bat to drive them away. However, the youths managed to take control of the bat and brutally assaulted him.

Before losing consciousness, Madhavan told his son, Mahesh, a Class 10 student, that he would return home after getting stitches for his head injuries and that they would file a formal police complaint using CCTV footage of the attack. Madhavan died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Mahesh stated that the family believes the assailants were under the influence of alcohol and ganja during the attack, citing their aggressive behavior.
