Two Killed as Tanker Overturns and Crushes Auto on Ghodbunder Road in Thane

An accident on Wednesday afternoon in the Anand Nagar area of Ghodbunder Road in Thane left two people dead and another severely injured after a chemical tanker overturned and crushed a moving autorickshaw.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 12:30 pm on Wednesday. According to the police, both the heavy chemical tanker and the moving autorickshaw were travelling in the same direction along the busy Ghodbunder Road when the tanker overturned.
The impact of the heavy vehicle completely crushed the autorickshaw beneath its weight. Two of the occupants inside the autorickshaw died in the accident, while a third occupant was left with severe injuries.
The deceased victims have been identified by the authorities as the autorickshaw driver, Dashrath Pawar, and one of his passengers, Mohammad Amin. Another passenger who was also inside the autorickshaw at the time of the accident sustained severe injuries. This injured passenger was immediately rescued from the scene and rushed to a local hospital to receive medical treatment.
Following the crash, local authorities confirmed that there was no chemical leakage from the overturned tanker despite the severe impact of the roll-over.
Immediately after receiving an alert about the accident, a team of traffic police personnel and emergency rescue teams rushed to the spot to initiate rescue and clearance operations.
Senior Police Inspector (Traffic) Rahul Mhaske described the scene and the emergency response. "Immediately upon receiving the alert, a team of traffic police personnel along with rescue teams rushed to the spot," Mhaske said.
"We managed to lift the overturned chemical tanker and pull it aside to clear the passage. The auto-rickshaw was found totally crushed beneath the weight of the heavy vehicle," Mhaske added.
Due to the intensive clearance operation required to lift the heavy tanker and remove the crushed autorickshaw, traffic on the busy Ghodbunder Road was temporarily affected. Police and rescue teams worked to clear the passage and restore the normal flow of vehicles on the road.
The police are currently in the process of registering a case against the driver of the chemical tanker.
