Two killed and two injured in canter truck crash near Makali on Tumakuru Road

Two people, including a 16-year-old boy, were killed and two others sustained injuries after a speeding canter truck crashed into a parked canter vehicle on the Tumakuru-Bengaluru Main Road in the early hours of Wednesday. The fatal accident occurred around 3:15 am in front of Orchids School near Makali, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Chikkabanavara Traffic Police Station.

The deceased have been identified as 16-year-old Preetham and 19-year-old Amit. Two other passengers, Nilamoni and Govinda, sustained injuries in the crash and are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

According to the police, the incident occurred when a stationary canter vehicle was struck from behind. Shivakumar T, the 52-year-old driver of the parked canter, filed a formal complaint with the police explaining the sequence of events.

In his complaint, Shivakumar stated that he was travelling from Tumakuru towards Hosur. During the journey, he stopped his canter vehicle on the roadside near Makali to load rice bags. While the vehicle was parked, another speeding canter truck, allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner, crashed directly into the rear of Shivakumar's vehicle.

The severe impact of the collision caused Shivakumar’s vehicle to lose control and crash into the road divider. Following the crash, passersby and the driver immediately worked together to pull the injured occupants out of the vehicle.

The injured individuals were quickly shifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Police officials later confirmed that Preetham and Amit succumbed to their injuries, while Nilamoni and Govinda remain hospitalised.

The Chikkabanavara Traffic Police have registered a case based on the driver's complaint. Further investigation into the crash and the speeding truck is currently underway.
