Two Dead, 26 Injured As Bus Carrying Bengaluru Nursing Students Overturns On NH-48

Two persons died and as many as 26 sustained injuries after a private bus carrying nursing students from Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru toppled on National Highway 48 near Aimangala in Hiriyur Taluk of Chitradurga district on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Guruprakash from Tumakuru and 25-year-old Shankar from Kudupli in Athani Taluk. The two men were working as the driver and cleaner of the private bus respectively.

According to reports, BSc nursing students from Christian Universal Nursing College on Bannerghatta Road had departed on a tour to Dandeli on August 16. The accident occurred on Friday while the group was returning to Bengaluru.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the bus to overturn on the highway. The front portion of the vehicle was completely damaged in the crash. Emergency workers had to deploy a crane to extricate the body of the cleaner from the wreckage.

All 26 students sustained minor injuries in the incident. They were transported to the Chitradurga district hospital, where they received medical treatment.
