Two Arrested After Law Student Stabbed to Death in Kodihalli over Rs 5 Lakh Chit Fund Row

A 22-year-old law student, Amrutha, died on July 15, two days after she was stabbed near her residence in Kodihalli, Bengaluru, following a dispute over a Rs 5 lakh chit fund and a failed relationship. The Bengaluru Police have arrested and booked two brothers, Surya and Dhanush, on charges of murder in connection with the fatal attack that took place on July 13.

According to investigators, the primary motives behind the crime were a financial dispute and a soured romantic relationship. Amrutha's mother ran a local chit fund in which Surya’s family had invested. Surya allegedly became enraged over the non-payment of Rs 5 lakh, which he claimed was owed to his family by Amrutha’s mother. Police stated that Surya had repeatedly demanded the repayment of the amount prior to the incident.

The situation was further complicated by the breakdown of a romantic relationship. Amrutha had recently ended her four-year relationship with Dhanush, who is Surya’s brother. Police said that Amrutha decided to break off the relationship after she allegedly discovered that Dhanush had concealed details about his life, including a previous marriage, a divorce, and a child. While investigators are still verifying these claims, they noted that Dhanush allegedly continued to pursue and threaten Amrutha after the breakup.

On the day of the incident, July 13, the two brothers allegedly confronted Amrutha near her residence in Kodihalli. The confrontation, which was centered on the Rs 5 lakh chit fund money, quickly escalated into a heated argument. During the dispute, Surya allegedly drew a weapon and stabbed Amrutha.

Following the attack, Amrutha was admitted to a hospital with severe injuries. She underwent treatment for two days but succumbed to her wounds on July 15. Following her death, the police arrested both Surya and Dhanush. The brothers have been booked for murder, and the Bengaluru Police are conducting further investigations into the case.
