Three More Aides of Bengaluru Inspector Mahesh Kanakagiri Arrested in Dacoity Case

The Madiwala police on Wednesday arrested three more individuals in Bengaluru in connection with a Rs 20-lakh dacoity case that allegedly involves a local police inspector. The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into a robbery that took place earlier this month.

The three newly arrested suspects have been identified as Shafi and Haris, both from Madikeri, and Rashid, who is from Kerala. According to the police, the three men operated as aides to police inspector Mahesh Kanakagiri.

Prior to these latest arrests, the police had already taken inspector Mahesh Kanakagiri into custody. Two of his other aides, identified as Kupendra Reddy and Vasanth Kumar, were also previously arrested and taken into custody in connection with the crime.

The case pertains to an incident on June 15, when the group allegedly robbed Rs 20 lakh from a businessman from Kerala, identified as Junish Babu AK. The dacoity was executed under the pretext of conducting a police raid at a hotel.

During the staged raid, the gang accused the Kerala businessman of participating in illegal activities, specifically money laundering and drug peddling. They then proceeded to rob him of the Rs 20 lakh.

To carry out the robbery and maintain the pretense of an official police action, the group used a police SUV. The vehicle used in the crime was officially allotted to inspector Mahesh Kanakagiri and carried CID insignia.
