Thousands Rally in Bengaluru Against Parks Amendment Bill to Protect Green Spaces

Thousands of citizens gathered in Bengaluru to rally against the proposed Parks Amendment Bill, raising the call of ‘Save Lalbagh’ over the protection of the city’s green spaces.

The demonstrations were organized in response to the provisions of the Bill, which allows up to five per cent of park and garden land across Karnataka to be alienated or leased for public utility and infrastructure projects.

Protesters warned that the legislation poses a significant threat to Bengaluru's environment. According to those demonstrating against the move, enabling the alienation or leasing of public park land could open the door to a gradual and irreversible loss of precious green spaces across the city.

The ‘Save Lalbagh’ campaign has drawn widespread participation, with thousands voicing concerns that diverting protected garden and park areas for infrastructure and utilities undermines urban ecology and community spaces.
