The Indian Artisans Haat Opens at Rangoli Metro Art Centre on MG Road

The Indian Artisans Haat (TIAH), a handicrafts exhibition and sales fair, opened at the Rangoli Metro Art Centre on MG Road on Friday. Organised by Deccan Herald and Prajavani as part of the Varamahalakshmi festival, the exhibition is scheduled to remain open to the public until August 30, operating daily from 10 am to 8.30 pm.

A total of 86 artisans representing 25 states across India are participating in the event, putting handloom products, handicrafts, artworks, and traditional items on display for direct sale to visitors. The fair brings together an extensive collection of traditional art forms under one roof, including wooden toys, paintings, jewellery, and home décor.

Artisans from states such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Manipur, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal are exhibiting their work. Among the featured products are Khurja pottery and Saharanpur furniture from Uttar Pradesh, marble carvings from Agra, wooden dolls and antique furniture from Rajasthan, stone sculptures from Odisha, Channapatna toys, traditional carvings from Tirupati, and Golden Grass mats from West Bengal.

In addition to the crafts, the event features cultural presentations. Nagraj Hundekar, co-founder of TIAH, stated that the exhibition aims to promote indigenous products and introduce traditional art forms to the younger generation.

Organisers highlighted several popular items drawing customer interest, particularly jewellery collections including oxidised and seashell-and-pearl pieces from West Bengal, terracotta and Lambani jewellery from Karnataka, and Meenakari ornaments from Rajasthan.

Food stalls offering a variety of snacks are also stationed at the Rangoli Metro Art Centre venue, and organisers noted that musical performances will be staged over the weekend to accompany the festive shopping.
