SWR and BSWML Clear Garbage and Carcass Near Banaswadi Railway Underpass

South Western Railway authorities and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited workers cleared heaps of accumulated garbage and buried a bloated cow carcass on a vacant railway plot adjacent to the Banaswadi Railway Underpass and Hutchins Road on Thursday morning.

Residents living in Hutchins Road and neighbouring localities had raised serious alarms over potential health hazards after the cattle carcass remained abandoned on the railway property since Wednesday. The vacant stretch had also seen continuous accumulation of waste, creating unhygienic conditions in the area.

Following alerts from local residents, SWR personnel initiated measures to bury the carcass on the site on Thursday morning. Simultaneously, BSWML Assistant General Manager Mamata deployed sanitation workers to remove the large piles of garbage that had gathered along the stretch.

Cooke Town Nivasigala Sangha President Albert R acknowledged the intervention by railway officials, particularly Assistant Divisional Engineer Rampriyan. According to Albert, the official confirmed that a railway works inspector had been tasked with cleaning and clearing the yard, while also assuring residents that steps would be taken to reconstruct the damaged boundary wall after securing necessary approvals from competent authorities.

Local residents have repeatedly pointed out that the lack of proper fencing or barriers has turned the vacant land into an easy dumping ground. Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, an advocate residing in the vicinity, appreciated the prompt cleanup by SWR and BSWML officials but urged the railway administration to erect a permanent concrete wall along the stretch rather than installing a wire mesh fence.

Echoing similar concerns, Richards Town resident Zafar Sait called for rebuilding the breached perimeter wall to permanently curb dumping and public urination on the vacant land. BSWML Assistant General Manager Mamata noted that civic workers have had to clean the railway property multiple times and urged SWR to ensure the land remains secured and maintained in the future.
