Severe Potholes Plague Crucial Bengaluru Junctions Connecting to MG Road

Over two months after Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda promised to address civic problems and improve living conditions, severe potholes and damaged road surfaces continue to endanger motorists and pedestrians across Bengaluru, including key transit routes near MG Road and Queen's Road.

Commuters travelling towards MG Road, Shivajinagar, and Vidhana Soudha face persistent hazards at the junction connecting Cantonment Railway Station with Queen’s Road and Coles Park. The damaged patch is located at a spot where traffic diverges, forcing drivers of BMTC buses, cars, autorickshaws, and two-wheelers to navigate around broken asphalt. During rainfall, water fills the depression and conceals its depth, increasing the risk of skidding and collisions.

Road conditions have similarly deteriorated near Richmond Road in front of Hosmat Hospital, where potholes line both sides of the one-way stretch. Although the road had been repaired recently, KPTCL personnel dug it up for maintenance work only weeks later. The resulting craters frequently fill with stagnant rainwater, creating hazardous conditions for both vehicular traffic and pedestrians.

Other key corridors across the city face severe disruption due to ongoing work and lack of maintenance. Lower Agaram Road has been dug up, resulting in the complete closure of one side of the road. On the operational side, moving traffic must navigate past open dug-up spots that risk vehicle accidents.

Along the Outer Ring Road near Babusapalya, the parallel service road has broken down with multiple potholes and crumbling patches. The stretch serves as a vital route for motorists travelling towards Horamavu and accommodates daily commuters from Prakruthi Township, Mallappa Layout, Banjara Layout, Balaji Layout, and Bank Avenue.

The poor road conditions have led to physical injuries among commuters. On Mysuru Road, a scooter rider suffered a fractured left hand after skidding while attempting to navigate a pothole. In the IT corridor, Medahalli Main Road in KR Puram remained untarred for a decade, receiving patchwork fixes only after local protests.
