Seven Armed Men Abduct Bengaluru Businessman, Rob Rs 1.09 Crore

A 41-year-old businessman and his driver were abducted and robbed of Rs 1.09 crore by seven armed men near Kadasanagara Colony in Bengaluru on Monday. The incident, which occurred within the jurisdiction of the Madanayakanahalli Police Station, involved the assailants forcing the businessman's wife to hand over a large sum of cash kept at their residence.
The businessman, identified as RI Shivashankar, and his driver, Chethan, were returning home in their car when the attack took place. According to the complaint filed by Shivashankar, the duo had just collected Rs 74 lakh from a hotel in Yelahanka following a meeting with his business associates.
In addition to the money in the car, Shivashankar had Rs 35 lakh in cash stored at his residence. This money had been collected earlier from another hotel located in Kodigehalli, according to police reports.
As the victims drove near Kadasanagara Colony, their vehicle was suddenly intercepted by two other cars. Seven unidentified men, who were allegedly armed with knives and beer bottles, forced Shivashankar and Chethan out of their car. The suspects then assaulted the two men and forced them into their vehicles.
During the abduction, the armed assailants threatened to kill both the businessman and his driver. After learning about the Rs 35 lakh kept at Shivashankar’s house, the abductors contacted his wife and coerced her into handing over the cash.
The assailants also took the Rs 74 lakh that was left inside Shivashankar's car. The total amount of cash looted during the entire incident amounted to Rs 1.09 crore. The armed men eventually released the businessman and his driver.
The Madanayakanahalli Police have registered a formal case against the seven unidentified individuals. The charges filed include Section 140(2) for kidnapping or abducting in order to murder or for ransom, and Section 310(2) for dacoity under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
An investigation is currently underway as police work to verify the allegations, identify the suspects, and make arrests.
