Security Tightened at KRS Dam in Srirangapatna Over Cauvery Water Order

Security arrangements were stepped up in and around the KRS dam in Srirangapatna taluk as a precautionary measure following directions from the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC). The committee directed the Karnataka government to release 12,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu for a period of 15 days.

Following directions from the Mandya district administration, authorities placed barricades near the south side entrance of the dam. Civil police personnel were deputed alongside the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force, which mans the dam, to ensure that no unauthorized individuals approach the structure.

The precautionary deployment comes amid concerns that agitators could attempt to lay siege to the dam if water is released to Tamil Nadu. Opposing the directive, a Congress MLA stated that they would fight against the Karnataka government if Cauvery water is released.

To keep vigil on the movement of potential protesters, CCTV cameras were installed at various places around the area. Cauvery Neeravari Nigam officials, alongside police personnel, are maintaining a close watch on all activities surrounding the dam.
