RPF Bengaluru Recovers Passenger's Bag Containing Over ₹29 Lakh in Valuables

Railway Protection Force personnel at Krantivira Sangoli Rayanna Bengaluru Railway Station recovered and returned a passenger’s bag containing gold ornaments, a laptop, and cash worth more than ₹29 lakh after it was left behind on a train.

The passenger, identified as Santosh, was travelling on Train No. 16316 running between Thiruvananthapuram North and Mysuru on August 30. While deboarding the train at Krishnarajapuram in Bengaluru, he inadvertently left his bag behind in coach B3. According to railway officials, the misplaced bag contained gold ornaments alongside other valuable personal belongings.

After receiving information regarding an unattended bag in the coach, RPF Bengaluru alerted its on-duty staff. When the train subsequently pulled into Platform 5 at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station, RPF personnel boarded coach B3 and searched the area.

Security personnel located the unattended bag inside the coach and transferred it to the RPF office for verification and safe custody, an official said.

Later, Santosh arrived at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station accompanied by his family members and approached RPF personnel to report the loss of his luggage. Railway officials verified his identity and his travel particulars before presenting the recovered bag to him, which he positively identified as his own.

The bag was opened in the presence of on-duty RPF personnel to verify the contents inside. Officials confirmed that it contained approximately 189 grams of gold ornaments, valued by the passenger at around ₹27.15 lakh, along with ₹53,240 in cash, a laptop, a laptop bag, and other accessories.

Following the completion of necessary verification procedures and required formalities, the RPF personnel handed over the entire bag and all its contents safely to Santosh.
