Railway Board Approves CBTC Signalling for Namma Metro Pink and Blue Lines

The Railway Board has granted in-principle approval for the Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling and train control system across Namma Metro’s Pink Line and Blue Line networks in Bengaluru. The clearance applies to the Pink Line stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, as well as the entire Blue Line extending from Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) stated on Saturday that securing this clearance is a major step toward commissioning the Pink Line, designated as Reach-6. BMRCL officials had been consistently pursuing the approval with the Railway Board and the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) over the last month to ensure the process was completed.

While the signalling clearance was a critical pending requirement for the Pink Line, BMRCL noted that the approval for the Blue Line—covering Phase 2A and Phase 2B—was obtained well in advance of its scheduled commissioning. This early clearance for the airport route will enable timely train testing and safety certification procedures.

Following the in-principle approval, BMRCL will now proceed with the remaining procedural steps required to launch passenger services on the Pink Line. These steps include obtaining interim speed certification from the RDSO, carrying out trial runs, and facilitating a statutory inspection of the rolling stock by the CCRS.

Once trial runs are completed, the Pink Line will undergo a final statutory inspection and clearance phase before being officially opened for public transit.
