PRR Landowners Urge Government to Suspend BDA Possession Notifications

BENGALURU — Landowners affected by the proposed Peripheral Ring Road (PRR-1) project of the Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC) have decided to urge the Karnataka state government to withdraw or suspend land possession notifications issued by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on August 18.

The landowners alleged that the BDA notifications violated existing interim and status-quo orders passed by the High Court of Karnataka.

Members of the PRR Raitha Haagu Niveshandarara Sangha announced plans to submit a formal petition to DK Shivakumar on Thursday. The petition highlights that the notifications were issued despite several landholders having already obtained court orders restraining the BDA from proceeding with land acquisition, taking physical possession, or interfering with their properties.

The association strongly questioned the BDA’s assertion in the August 18 Gazette notifications claiming that possession of the disputed land had been taken back in February 2011.

To counter this claim, the landowners pointed to an affidavit submitted by the BDA before the Supreme Court in 2021. In that affidavit, the BDA stated that out of a total of 1,810 acres and 18.5 guntas of land, compensation had been disbursed in only three cases. The authority also admitted before the apex court that physical possession had been taken for just three acres and 21 guntas.

The landowners pointed out that this earlier admission directly contradicted the latest possession notifications issued by the BDA.

According to the association, affected property owners had previously submitted their objections in September and October 2024. Objections were also lodged by landowners who chose not to opt for any of the five compensation options approved by the state government in November 2025.
