Pregnant Constable Attacked with Iron Rod at Majestic Railway Police Station

A two-month pregnant woman police constable was brutally assaulted with an iron rod inside the Majestic Railway Police Station in Bengaluru during the early hours of Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Gajendra, has been taken into custody by the railway police and is being questioned in connection with the assault.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when constable Shilpa was alone inside the station premises. According to preliminary details, Gajendra initially approached the station claiming that he had lost a mobile phone and intended to lodge an official complaint.

Shilpa allegedly informed the visitor that no other staff members were present on duty at the time and asked him to return later in the morning to complete the formalities for filing the complaint. Following the interaction, the man left the station premises.

However, Gajendra returned shortly afterwards armed with an iron rod. He allegedly targeted Shilpa while she was sleeping on the desk at the police station. The accused reportedly struck her on the head seven to eight times, inflicting critical injuries.

Shilpa was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. According to her family, she sustained severe head wounds that required 23 stitches.

Following the incident, Shilpa’s brother, Krishna Nayak, raised serious concerns and levelled allegations of negligence against senior personnel at the police station, specifically holding the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and Circle Inspector accountable for the duty roster.

Nayak stated that Shilpa was two months pregnant and had repeatedly requested superior officers to assign her day shifts instead of overnight responsibilities. Despite her condition and requests, she was assigned to night-time sentry duty at the station.

Nayak maintained that the brutal attack could have been prevented had adequate safety precautions and appropriate duty deployments been implemented by the supervising officers. Railway police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
