Prakash Raj Claims Name Removed From Bengaluru Voter List, Official Says Status Shifted

Actor Prakash Raj claimed on Tuesday that his name was removed from the Bengaluru electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, leading election authorities to clarify that his entry was marked as shifted within the Shanthinagar constituency after verification.

In a video posted on social media platform X on Tuesday, Raj claimed he was among 65 lakh voters whose names were removed following the revision drive. The actor voiced surprise over the deletion, emphasizing his long-standing personal and professional connection to the constituency. He stated that he was born in the area, completed his school and college education there, participated in local theatre projects, and previously contested a Lok Sabha election from the same constituency.

During his statement, Raj questioned the formal procedures required to have his name restored to the electoral rolls. He asked which specific papers and documents would need to be produced to regain his voter ID. Raj also launched a criticism against the Centre's ruling establishment, alleging that political power could be deployed to deprive certain citizens of their constitutional voting rights simply because they do not support those currently in power.

Civic and election authorities later publicly disputed the claims made by the actor. Jagadish G, Additional District Election Officer (Central) and Commissioner of the Bengaluru Central City Corporation, clarified that Raj's name had not been erased from the system, but was instead marked as "Shifted" following routine verification carried out by a Booth Level Officer (BLO).

According to Jagadish G, the BLO verification revealed that Raj had not been residing at his officially registered address for a period of four years. The official stated that Raj himself confirmed he now lives at a different address within the Shanthinagar constituency. Authorities confirmed that the action was executed strictly as per Election Commission guidelines and noted that the actor can easily update his voter details by submitting Form 6.
