Police Shoot Murder Suspect Near Somasundarpalya Lake After Attack on Constable

The police on Friday opened fire at a 34-year-old murder suspect near Somasundarpalya Lake in southeast Bengaluru after he allegedly attacked a police constable with a weapon during an arrest attempt. The injured suspect and the constable were subsequently admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Trauma Centre in Jayanagar for medical treatment.

The incident took place around 12:50 a.m. when Bandepalya Sub-Inspector Sachin Gowda and Police Constable Sandeep Kamble acted on credible intelligence regarding the whereabouts of the accused, identified as Zeeshan. Zeeshan, a resident of Subash Nagar in Electronic City, is suspected of manufacturing illegal arms.

Investigators were searching for Zeeshan in connection with the murder of Suhail, a 40-year-old medical shop owner who was hacked to death by an armed gang in public view on Madiwala Main Road on the night of August 22. Zeeshan is suspected to be an associate of Adil Akmal, who was previously arrested by the Madiwala police in the case. Nearly six people have been arrested so far in connection with the killing.

When the police officers located Zeeshan near the lake, he brandished a weapon in an attempt to evade arrest. Although the officers tried to persuade him to stand down, Zeeshan allegedly attacked Constable Kamble, inflicting an injury on his left hand.

According to police officials, Sub-Inspector Gowda initially fired a warning round into the air in an effort to halt the assault. However, Zeeshan allegedly continued to attack the personnel and threw chilli powder at them.

As a last resort, Sub-Inspector Gowda fired another shot, striking Zeeshan in his right leg. Both the injured suspect and Constable Kamble were then shifted to the Sanjay Gandhi Trauma Centre in Jayanagar. Police confirmed that both are out of danger.

Scene of crime officers later visited and reviewed the spot near the lake. The Bandepalya Police have registered a case against Zeeshan under Sections 109, 132, and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as Section 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act.
