Police recover Rs 15 lakh stolen by domestic help in Jnanabharati Layout

A domestic help who had been employed by a local family for over a decade has been accused of stealing approximately Rs 25 lakh from her employer's residence in Jnanabharati Layout, Bengaluru. The incident, which was reported on June 5, 2026, has resulted in the recovery of Rs 15 lakh by the local police.
The theft was uncovered when businessman Bhadrirangan B went to check on the money kept in his wardrobe and found that it had completely gone missing. Bhadrirangan later informed the police that the cash was from the sale of a plot of land nearly two years ago. The family had been saving the substantial sum for the purpose of purchasing a new property.
According to the victim, the key to the wardrobe was stored in a drawer located close to the television unit in the house. After discovering that the money was gone, Bhadrirangan questioned both his wife and his mother. Upon finding out that neither his wife nor his mother knew anything about the missing money, Bhadrirangan decided to check the home's CCTV security footage.
The security footage revealed the domestic help, identified as Ratnamma, allegedly stealing the money on several different occasions.
Following the discovery, the Rajarajeshwarinagar police were called in to investigate. When police officers visited Ratnamma’s house, they found that she was missing. However, her daughter was present at the home and admitted to the police that her mother had a role in the theft.
The police team then conducted a search of Ratnamma's house, where they successfully found and recovered Rs 15 lakh of the stolen cash.
