Over 2,500 Gather at Vidhana Soudha as Bengaluru Celebrates International Yoga Day

BENGALURU — More than 2,500 yoga enthusiasts gathered in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Sunday to participate in a mass yoga session, marking the 12th International Day of Yoga. The landmark's steps were filled with participants performing the common yoga protocol in unison early in the morning.
The state-level event featured prominent public figures, including Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot and minister U T Khadar, who joined the thousands of citizens gathered at the venue. The mass session was designed to highlight the widespread appeal of the wellness practice in the state.
This year's International Day of Yoga was celebrated under the specific theme of "Yoga for Healthy Ageing." The event at the Vidhana Soudha was part of a broader, city-wide effort to promote healthy lifestyles and wellness across different age groups.
In addition to the central gathering at the government landmark, yoga sessions were organized across various other locations in Bengaluru. The spread of events was designed to showcase the inclusive nature of the celebrations.
Among the diverse venues hosting sessions on Sunday was the local jail. Prison inmates participated in the yoga sessions alongside coordinators, extending the reach of the health initiative to correctional facilities.
Organizers noted that the events, spanning from the steps of the prominent Vidhana Soudha to the local prison, demonstrated how different communities across Bengaluru could participate in the wellness initiative. The sessions successfully brought yoga to a wide range of venues, from major public landmarks to restricted correctional spaces.
