Opposition Alleges Voter ID Irregularities in Ramanagara Tippu Nagar

On July 2, 2026, opposition leaders in Karnataka, including the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Dr. Ravi C. T and HD Kumaraswamy, alleged that the state government is attempting to create voter identity cards for illegal immigrants. The controversy centers on alleged irregularities during the Special Summary Revision (SIR) process in Tippu Nagar, Ward No. 23 of Ramanagara.

The opposition leaders claimed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are openly violating the rules set by the Election Commission of India. Under the official guidelines of the SIR process, BLOs are required to visit every individual household, distribute forms, and collect information directly from residents. However, the opposition alleged that BLOs in Tippu Nagar were instead organizing an "SIR rally," which they argued violates the standard procedure and turns the official revision exercise into a mockery.

BJP leader Dr. Ravi C. T raised the issue publicly, specifically alleging that the Congress-led Karnataka government is attempting to create identity cards for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Ramanagara. He called upon the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka and the Election Commission of India to launch a strict investigation into the incident and take stringent action against those responsible for the alleged violations.

Other BJP leaders supported the claims previously made by HD Kumaraswamy, demanding strict action against individuals responsible for violating election rules. They argued that the integrity of the voter registration process was being compromised by these actions in Ward No. 23.

The opposition has formally urged the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka and the Election Commission of India to probe the allegations of irregularities in the SIR process to ensure election rules are strictly upheld in the region. No official response from the government or election authorities was detailed in the initial reports.
