Namma Metro Records 15 Technical Glitches Across Three Lines in 11 Months

Bengaluru's Namma Metro recorded 15 technical disruptions across its network between September 2025 and July 2026, according to details provided by Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda in the Legislative Council. The failures, which occurred across the Green, Purple, and Yellow lines, affected services at several key transit points including Cubbon Park, Yeshwanthpur, Madavara, and Beratena Agrahara.

The disruptions were linked to signalling issues, train-control glitches, rolling-stock defects, and power-related failures. Across the network, the Green Line recorded six incidents, the Purple Line experienced five, and the newly operational Yellow Line accounted for four snags, with the latest taking place on August 24.

Among the major occurrences detailed in the Council was a June 23 incident on the Purple Line, where a third-rail system misalignment near Cubbon Park halted train services for more than five hours during evening peak hours. On July 21, a third-rail power supply failure triggered by a protection circuit disrupted the Green Line between Yeshwanthpur and Madavara for 51 minutes during morning peak hours, leading to train regulation and short-loop operations on a single line. On the Yellow Line, a mechanical snag on August 24 at Beratena Agrahara forced officials to terminate a train and transfer passengers to a trailing train.

In his response, the minister stated that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) conducts detailed failure analysis and root-cause analysis for all major technical failures. Defective components are replaced, and system-specific corrective and preventive measures are deployed based on findings. BMRCL continuously tracks the effectiveness of these measures using failure data and recurrence trends.

Addressing queries on commuter relief, the minister noted that during major disruptions, BMRCL coordinates with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to deploy additional or alternative feeder bus services where necessary. However, the policy does not include a mandatory guarantee of free bus services or fixed response timelines. BMRCL also operates short-loop train services on unaffected sections and provides passenger guidance at stations alongside defined emergency evacuation procedures.
