Namma Metro Hit by 15 Technical Disruptions in 10 Months Across Bengaluru Lines

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro network recorded 15 technical disruptions across its Purple, Green, and Yellow lines between September 2025 and July 2026, including a relay failure in Indiranagar that halted train operations for 25 minutes, according to data shared in the Karnataka Legislative Council.

Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda detailed the operational failures while responding to questions in the Council. The technical issues across the network involved signalling failures affecting braking and train reversal, traction power supply interruptions, train-control faults, and malfunctions in door-closing confirmation systems.

On the Purple Line, five technical disruptions occurred during the 10-month period. A signalling power-supply relay failure in the Indiranagar interlocking area on March 15, 2026, halted operations for roughly 25 minutes. Earlier on September 13, 2025, a signalling glitch near Pattandur Agrahara triggered unintended braking, while a traction power contactor failure at Vijayanagar on October 30 forced a train out of service. On June 3, a door-status fault at Seetharampalya blocked traction power, and on June 23, a damaged third-rail support insulator between Cubbon Park and MG Road cut power to a down train.

The Green Line recorded the highest number of incidents. On May 5, a communication failure between the driver control system and the Automatic Train Control cubicle near Doddakallasandra disabled Automatic Train Operation mode. Other Green Line incidents included a door-closing signal fault at Chickpete on May 11, a 51-minute disruption near Jalahalli and Nagasandra due to a power protection circuit issue on June 11, a third-rail insulator failure near Peenya Industry on July 4, a cab-door locking fault at Banashankari on July 9, and an onboard signalling fault between Yeshwanthpur and Jalahalli on July 21.

The Yellow Line experienced three disruptions, including signalling faults affecting train reversals at Bommasandra on September 22, 2025, and May 18, 2026, as well as a burnt air-conditioning contactor coil near HSR Layout-Bommanahalli on March 31, 2026.

To address recurrent failures, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited conducts root-cause investigations after major incidents to replace or upgrade components. Minister Gowda stated that the corporation is increasing surveillance of critical systems and will coordinate with the BMTC to provide feeder bus services during major disruptions.
