MIT Bengaluru and IBM Launch High-Performance AI Computing Lab on Campus

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) Bengaluru, a constituent unit of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), has launched an IBM–MIT AI Lab on its Bengaluru campus in partnership with IBM. The facility, named MAHE Intelligence GPU (MIG), has been set up to accelerate and democratise artificial intelligence skills and research access.

The newly established High-Performance Computing (HPC) facility is powered by GPU-enabled computing infrastructure capable of handling 30 high-performance workloads simultaneously. It is designed to provide computing resources and research infrastructure to students, faculty, and researchers across the country.

The lab will support research across various technology domains, including machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, cybersecurity, healthcare, intelligent systems, and data analytics. Beyond research, the facility will serve as an industry-academia collaboration hub supporting sponsored projects, interdisciplinary studies, faculty development programmes, hackathons, internships, and startup incubation.

In addition to the computing infrastructure, MIT Bengaluru will roll out an AI Learning Initiative through IBM SkillsBuild, IBM's free technology education program. The initiative will offer AI awareness workshops, immersive bootcamps, and practical training in AI and machine learning.

The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Madhu Veeraraghavan, Pro Vice-Chancellor of MAHE Bengaluru, alongside Nisha Gopinath, Vice-President of Human Resources at IBM India and South Asia.

Priyank Kharge, Karnataka Minister for Home, IT & BT, and e-Governance, noted that access to advanced AI infrastructure and hands-on learning will help students and researchers develop AI-driven solutions to address societal challenges and foster inclusive growth.

Dr. Veeraraghavan emphasised that AI must serve as an enabler for all learners, highlighting the institution's focus on combining research with social impact. Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India and South Asia, stated that the initiative aligns with India's expanding digital foundations and talent ecosystem to support global AI innovation.
