Minister Krishna Byre Gowda Announces Monthly Reviews for Greater Bengaluru Authority

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Thursday announced that he will conduct monthly review meetings to monitor civic works and address public grievances across the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area. Speaking after a review meeting with commissioners and officials from all five city corporations, the minister also pledged to address pothole issues on major roads within a month.

The minister instructed the Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Commissioner to hold regular reviews and provide clear directions to civic staff. Emphasising effective performance, he stated that responsive administration is critical to delivering better governance and gaining public trust.

Under civic infrastructure upgrades, the government is currently undertaking road repair works, including asphalting and white-topping covering 2,500 km at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore. Minister Byre Gowda directed officials to conduct a survey of potholes on all arterial and sub-arterial roads and execute repairs on priority. He noted that once potholes on major roads are fixed, repair work will shift to ward-level roads.

Regarding drainage infrastructure, Bengaluru contains approximately 840 km of stormwater drains (rajakaluves) within GBA limits, with roughly 640 km already developed. A fund of Rs 2,000 crore will be utilized to develop the remaining 200 km of stormwater drains.

Addressing public lighting issues, Byre Gowda instructed officials to replace faulty streetlights and accelerate the deployment of LED streetlights across the city. He cautioned that contractors who fail to perform their duties properly will face penalties.

To improve accountability, the minister ordered a re-examination of grievances registered through the Sahaya 2.0 platform since the formation of the GBA on September 2, 2025. He sought a report on complaints that had been marked as resolved by senior officials to verify their actual status. Additionally, an auditing system will be introduced to track operations of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited and Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Development Limited.

The minister also reviewed revenue figures, noting that the five municipal corporations have collected Rs 3,382 crore (50.48%) in property taxes against the total target of Rs 6,700 crore.
