Congress legislators Mankal Vaidya and Umashree are set to be elected unanimously to key presiding posts in the state legislature, with formal elections scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Bengaluru.

Bhatkal Congress MLA Mankal Vaidya filed his nomination papers for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Simultaneously, Congress MLC Umashree submitted her nomination for the position of Deputy Chairperson of the Karnataka Legislative Council.

The election of both candidates without a contest is expected as the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has decided not to field candidates for either of the two posts.
