Man surrenders after stabbing estranged wife and sister to death in Chintamani

A 30-year-old man allegedly stabbed and killed his estranged wife and her younger sister while they slept at their home in Chintamani town, Chikkaballapur district, on Monday morning. The accused, identified by police as Ejaz, later fled the scene with his three young children before surrendering to the authorities.

The victims were identified as 25-year-old Shama, who was Ejaz's estranged wife, and her 18-year-old sister, Reshma.

According to the police, the attack took place at approximately 6:15 AM on Monday. Ejaz allegedly used a knife to inflict fatal neck injuries on both Shama and Reshma while they were asleep. Shama's three young children were present in the house at the time of the double murder.

Following the attack, Ejaz reportedly took the three children on his motorcycle to his residence in Gulpet. At around 8:30 AM, he walked into the Gulpet police station and surrendered to the police.

Chikkaballapur Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey said Shama had been staying at her parents’ house in Chintamani for the past four months following her mother’s death. She had refused to return to Kolar, where Ejaz lived and worked repairing metal items and almirahs.

The separation had led to repeated disputes between the couple. A preliminary investigation suggested that Shama refused to return to Kolar due to harassment.

Family members described the marriage as troubled, alleging that Ejaz struggled with alcohol and gambling addictions and frequently harassed his wife. Relatives also claimed that village elders had previously attempted to mediate the disputes, but the issues persisted. Ejaz had allegedly threatened to kill Shama and her sisters on several occasions prior to the attack.

The Chintamani Town police have registered a murder case and are continuing their investigation.
