Man confesses to killing six-year-old girl over spilled ice cream in Bengaluru

A six-year-old girl was fatally assaulted in March by her mother's live-in partner after a family outing to Indiranagar, Bengaluru, leading to a recent confession by the suspect. The accused, Mohan GN, confessed to police that he struck the child in the stomach and smothered her cries when she accidentally spilled ice cream inside their car.
The victim, P Vennela, died from the assault on March 24. Mohan, a local realtor, was arrested on June 4 after the child’s father, Praveen, filed a murder complaint against both Mohan and the child's mother, Priyanka. Mohan is currently in 10-day police custody, while Priyanka remains elusive.
According to the police, the incident occurred after Mohan, Priyanka, and Vennela visited shops and eateries in and around Indiranagar. Later that night, the three drove towards the outskirts of the city in their multiutility vehicle (MUV) and stopped for dinner in Hoskote.
The assault took place inside the vehicle on their way back from Hoskote. Investigators stated that the child accidentally spilled her dessert, which triggered the violent reaction from Mohan.
"Vennela spilled her ice cream all over the seat and on the foot mat. She was crying for a different cone. In a fit of rage, I hit her on the stomach with my elbow and tight-shut her mouth when she started crying loudly," Mohan reportedly told investigators during his interrogation.
The police stated that these actions in quick succession led to the girl's death. Investigators are now putting the MUV through advanced forensic testing to find physical evidence that corroborates Mohan's confession. The final forensic report is currently awaited.
Vennela was the daughter of Praveen, an educationist from Davanagere, and Priyanka, an advocate. The couple had recently separated, after which Priyanka reconnected with Mohan, a college friend. The two had been living together at an address in east Bengaluru. Praveen currently lives in Davanagere with his elder daughter.
