Man arrested for stabbing girlfriend to death in Mahalakshmi Layout

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend on Sunday night after she refused to marry him in the Mahalakshmi Layout area of North Bengaluru. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Rajeev, was arrested by the police shortly after the attack.

The victim, Anjali, was a resident of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar in KP Agrahara. According to the police, she and Rajeev, a resident of Laggere, had been in a relationship for the past four years. The two first got acquainted while working together at a car showroom.

While both families were aware of their relationship, Anjali's parents opposed the marriage after learning about Rajeev's criminal antecedents. Police noted that Rajeev had been named in robbery and attempted murder cases in the past.

Despite Rajeev's repeated attempts to persuade Anjali and her family to agree to the marriage, his efforts failed. In recent weeks, Anjali gave in to pressure from her parents and began distancing herself from Rajeev, eventually stopping all responses to his phone calls and messages.

On Sunday evening, Rajeev asked Anjali to meet him for dinner. During their meeting, he raised the marriage issue once again. The discussion quickly turned into a heated argument after Anjali reiterated that she would not marry him.

Enraged by her refusal, Rajeev allegedly took Anjali to an isolated stretch on Pipeline Road near KP Agrahara at around 9:30 p.m. He then attacked her with a knife, stabbing her in the neck. Investigators stated that Anjali tried to escape by running, but Rajeev chased her down and continued the attack before fleeing the spot.

Passersby who noticed Anjali lying on the roadside rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Her body was later shifted for a post-mortem examination.

The Mahalakshmi Layout police inspected the crime scene and tracked Rajeev down shortly after using technical evidence.
