A 23-year-old man has been arrested by the Madanayakanahalli police after allegedly killing his stepfather to protect his mother during a domestic altercation in Shivapura, located in Doddaballapura taluk.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the deceased, identified as 51-year-old Sridhar, allegedly attempted to attack his wife, Deena, with a pair of scissors. In response, Deena's son from her first marriage, Uday Kumar, intervened and struck Sridhar on the head three times using a motorcycle shock absorber.

According to police, Sridhar was a journalist and reportedly an alcoholic who regularly abused and assaulted his wife during domestic disputes. Deena had separated from her first husband and married Sridhar 22 years ago. The family, which included Uday, Deena, Sridhar, and the couple's two children, resided together in Shivapura.

Following the assault on Tuesday, Sridhar sustained severe head injuries. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital for emergency medical care, where he succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment.

Following the death, the body was shifted to the Victoria Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. On Wednesday, the body was formally handed over to the family members after the completion of the procedure.
