Man Arrested After Woman Ends Life Over Property Dispute in Hangal Taluk

Family members of Neelamma Neeralagi staged a protest by placing her body in front of her house at Kalveyellapur in Hangal taluk on Tuesday night, alleging that her husband’s family was responsible for her death. Following a complaint filed by her relatives, local police registered a case and arrested the accused, Basavaraj.

According to police, Neelamma had married village resident Shivanand several years ago, and the couple had two children. Shivanand passed away three months ago, leaving Neelamma to raise their children while facing grief and financial difficulties.

Relatives stated that after Shivanand's death, his brother Basavaraj and others allegedly harassed Neelamma over property issues. Following the harassment, Neelamma ended her life by hanging at her home.

After her death, her family placed her body in front of the house on Tuesday night in protest. Police personnel visited the village and attempted to bring about a reconciliation in the presence of village elders. Discussions continued late into the night while the body remained outside the house.

Relatives filed a formal complaint holding Basavaraj responsible for her death. Local police have registered a case and arrested the accused.
