Madiwala police arrest three more suspects in inspector dacoity case

The Madiwala police on Wednesday arrested three additional suspects in Bengaluru in connection with a Rs 20-lakh dacoity case that allegedly involves a police inspector.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shafi and Haris, both residents of Madikeri, and Rashid, who hails from Kerala. According to law enforcement authorities, the three men operated as aides to police inspector Mahesh Kanakagiri.

The latest arrests follow the prior detention of Inspector Kanakagiri himself, along with two other associates, Kupendra Reddy and Vasanth Kumar, who were previously taken into police custody.

The case stems from an incident on June 15, when the group allegedly targeted Junish Babu AK, a businessman from Kerala. The gang intercepted the businessman under the pretext of conducting a police raid at a hotel.

During the encounter, the suspects accused the businessman of being involved in illegal activities, specifically money laundering and drug peddling.

To execute the robbery, the suspects utilized a police SUV that was officially allotted to Inspector Kanakagiri. The vehicle bore CID insignia, which helped the group carry out the fraudulent raid and escape with Rs 20 lakh.
