Lokayukta Directs Officials to Prioritize Bengaluru Garbage Disposal

Karnataka Lokayukta BS Patil on Friday, June 5, 2026, conducted field inspections across several areas in Bengaluru, directing Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and other civic officials to prioritize and resolve the city's mounting garbage disposal problems. This directive follows numerous public complaints regarding the unscientific dumping of waste across five city corporations.
During his visits, Lokayukta Patil inspected multiple locations to assess the ground reality of waste management. According to an official press note issued by the Lokayukta, the inspections revealed the presence of six major garbage "black spots" located in and around the neighbourhoods of RT Nagar, Byatarayanapura, and Anandanagar.
To address the systemic issues of waste management in Bengaluru, the Lokayukta has formed five specialized teams. Each of these teams has been tasked with studying the specific garbage disposal and management challenges within the jurisdictions of the five city corporations.
During the inspection tour, residents from Vishveshwarayanagar also approached the Lokayukta to voice their civic grievances. The residents complained that the local storm water drain regularly overflows whenever it rains, causing polluted drain water to flood directly into their houses.
After hearing the residents' complaints, Lokayukta Patil directed the municipal officials to address the drainage overflow issues immediately. The officials were also instructed to resolve the problems quickly and submit a detailed report to the Lokayukta regarding the steps taken to resolve the flooding and garbage dumping issues.
This direct intervention by the Lokayukta has put pressure on the civic authorities to take swift action to clean up the identified black spots and improve the overall waste management system in the city.
