Lokayukta BS Patil Orders Urgent Action on Bengaluru Garbage Dumping

On Friday, June 5, 2026, Karnataka Lokayukta BS Patil conducted field inspections across Bengaluru, including RT Nagar, Byatarayanapura, and Anandanagar, and directed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) officials to address the city's unscientific garbage disposal on a priority basis. The Lokayukta’s direct intervention comes in response to numerous civic complaints regarding waste management failures.

According to an official press note released by the Lokayukta, the action was prompted by innumerable complaints from residents regarding garbage being unscientifically dumped across five city corporations. The Lokayukta has directed urgent attention and priority action toward resolving these garbage disposal and waste management issues at the earliest.

To tackle the crisis systematically, five specialized teams have been formed. Each of these teams is tasked with studying the garbage and waste management issues specifically within the five city corporations.

During the Friday inspection, Lokayukta Patil visited several places to assess the ground reality. The inspection team located six major garbage "black spots" in and around the neighbourhoods of RT Nagar, Byatarayanapura, and Anandanagar, where waste has been accumulating unscientifically.

In addition to the garbage crisis, the Lokayukta addressed severe infrastructure failures during the tour. Residents from Vishveshwarayanagar approached the Lokayukta during the visit to complain about a local storm water drain. The residents stated that during rain, the storm water drain consistently overflows, flooding their houses with dirty drain water.

In response to these public grievances, Lokayukta Patil directed the GBA and corporation officials to solve the drainage and flooding issues quickly. The officials have also been ordered to submit a formal report on the measures taken to resolve the problems.
