Lokayukta BS Patil Directs Officials to Clear Bengaluru Garbage and Fix Flooding

The Karnataka Lokayukta has intervened to tackle the growing crisis of unscientific waste management in Bengaluru. On Friday, Lokayukta BS Patil personally conducted field visits across multiple areas in the city, directing Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) officials and other civic authorities to address the garbage disposal issues on a priority basis.

The intervention comes in the backdrop of innumerable complaints from local residents regarding garbage being unscientifically dumped across five city corporations. To systematically investigate the scale of the problem, five dedicated teams have been formed. According to an official press note released by the Lokayukta, these five teams are specifically tasked with studying the garbage issues plaguing each of the five corporations.

During the Friday inspection, Lokayukta BS Patil located six garbage "black spots" in and around the neighbourhoods of RT Nagar, Byatarayanapura, and Anandanagar. He directed the GBA and other concerned officials to address the waste accumulation at these sites at the earliest.

In addition to waste disposal, the Lokayukta also addressed critical drainage issues affecting local communities. During the visit, residents from Vishveshwarayanagar raised complaints regarding the poor state of local infrastructure. The residents explained that during periods of rain, the local storm water drain overflows, which subsequently floods their residential houses with drain water.

Responding to the residents' grievances, Lokayukta BS Patil directed the civic officials to resolve the storm water drain issue quickly. The Lokayukta has also mandated that the officials submit a formal report detailing the steps taken to solve the problem.
